Laparoscopic keyhole surgery

Laparoscopic or Keyhole Surgery

admin

Laparoscopy is commonly known as keyhole surgery:

This surgery is now preferred over traditional surgery as it leads to rapid recovery, reduced pain, and much smaller scars.

Benifits:

Laparoscopic has many benefits over traditional surgery:

  • You will have smaller scars which are cosmetically appealing
  • You will have a shorter stay in hospital
  • Less pain while the scars heal.
  • You are allowed to perform normal activities sooner

Laparoscopic surgery is a more convenient way of getting cured of many diseases as compared to traditional surgery. Surgery used to be a very complicated process earlier but with the introduction of laparoscopic surgery, surgery is getting easier for both doctors and patients.

Surgeries That Can Be Performed Laparoscopically

Gall stone surgery: Gallstones are hardened deposit in your gallbladder that can also range in size from as small as a grain of sand to as large as a golf ball. Laparoscopic surgery is the best way to perform gall stone surgery.

Hernia Surgery: Hernia occurs because of natural weakening of abdominal walls due to constant coughing, heavy lifting, or difficulty with bowel movement or urination. Laparoscopy is the best way to treat hernia as it includes only three tiny scars, comparatively less pain, and faster recovery.

Weight loss surgery: Weight gain or obesity is a common problem in India and laparoscopic surgery is the most preferred way for weight loss surgery. This surgery not only is the best because of fewer scars but side effects of the surgery are minimum as compared to traditional surgery.

Procedure:

In laparoscopy, a small incision is made at the belly button to insert a small tube called a cannula. The cannula is used to inflate your abdomen with carbon dioxide gas that allows your doctor to see your abdominal organs more clearly.
Once your abdomen is inflated, the surgeon inserts the camera mounted instrument through the incision. The camera attached to the laparoscope clearly displays all the images on a screen.

The number and size of incisions depend upon what specific diseases you are going through. These incisions allow other instruments to be inserted. After the procedure is done, the instruments are removed. Your incisions are then closed with stitches or surgical tape. Bandages may be placed over the incisions.

The whole process is painless and is performed under the influence of anesthesia.
